Product Care Guide

Beautiful furniture deserves thoughtful care. Each Maison Blanc piece is selected for its materials, craftsmanship and timeless design. Our product care guide provides simple, practical advice to help preserve the appearance, quality and character of your furniture for years to come.

Natural Stone & Marble

Natural Stone & Marble

From warm Travertine to the deep veining of Calacatta Viola, Arabescato White, Rosa Levanto, Desert Rose and Jade Green, every Maison Blanc stone piece is cut from genuine natural material. No two slabs are ever quite the same, and that individuality is part of what makes each piece worth having.

Everyday Care
  • Use coasters and placemats under cups, glasses and dishware.
  • Wipe up spills as soon as they happen, rather than leaving liquid to sit on the surface.
  • Place protective felt pads beneath vases, bowls and other decorative objects.
  • Lift objects rather than dragging them across the stone.
  • Take care around edges and corners, which can chip on impact.
  • Keep stone surfaces away from direct heat sources and sudden changes in temperature.
Cleaning
  • Clean with a soft microfibre cloth.
  • Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner suited to your piece's specific stone type and finish.
  • Dry the surface after cleaning to avoid water marks.
  • Avoid vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, abrasive powders and other acidic cleaning products, which can etch natural stone.
  • Do not use ordinary bathroom or kitchen descaling products on stone surfaces.
Protection

Sealing requirements vary by stone type, finish, and whether your piece was sealed prior to delivery. We don't assume every Maison Blanc stone piece is sealed, or that sealing is unnecessary — please check your product's specifications or ask our team if you're unsure.

A sealer can help reduce how much liquid the stone absorbs, but it does not make any stone completely stain-proof or etch-proof. We recommend seeking professional guidance before resealing a piece yourself.

A note on travertine: travertine is a naturally porous stone, formed with small surface pores and occasional filled voids. This porosity is part of its natural character and something to be mindful of with spills, particularly oil or acidic liquids.

Important Considerations
  • Natural veining and tonal variation are part of every stone piece, and no two slabs will look identical.
  • Mineral deposits and small pores can occur naturally within the stone.
  • Natural fissures and filled voids are a normal characteristic of many stones, not a flaw.
  • These natural characteristics are different from physical damage such as chips, cracks or impact marks, which are not considered normal variation.
  • Because each slab is unique, the piece you receive may differ slightly from photographs online — see our note on product images below.
Upholstered Beds

Upholstered Beds

Our Maison Cloud Bed Frame, in both Curved and Square silhouettes, is fully upholstered in fabrics including bouclé and teddy. The guidance below covers general care — always check the specific washing instructions for your fabric before cleaning.

Everyday Care
  • Vacuum gently using a soft upholstery attachment to remove dust and loose fibres.
  • Keep your bed away from excessive moisture and prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Avoid resting sharp or abrasive objects against the upholstered surfaces.
  • When repositioning your bed, lift it rather than pulling or dragging it by the upholstered sections.
  • Maintain adequate ventilation in the room to help the fabric stay fresh.
Cleaning
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth — avoid rubbing, which can push the spill further into the fabric.
  • Use only cleaning methods appropriate to your bed's actual upholstery fabric.
  • Spot test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area first.
  • For stubborn stains, we recommend engaging a professional upholstery cleaner rather than attempting to treat them yourself.
Protection

Removable covers: select Maison Cloud Bed covers are removable — check your specific product's care label or listing before washing. Where a cover is confirmed machine-washable, wash on a cold, delicate cycle and air dry; avoid bleach and high-temperature tumble drying. These washing instructions apply only to covers confirmed as machine-washable, not to all upholstery.

Important Considerations

Upholstered components that arrive compressed for shipping can take some time to settle into their intended shape once unpacked. We're not able to guarantee an exact recovery time, as this varies by piece, but gentle handling during this period will help the fabric and foam settle evenly.

Sofas & Lounge Chairs

Sofas & Lounge Chairs

Our sofas and lounge chairs are finished in a range of upholstery, from bouclé to ribbed corduroy. General guidance is below, though we'd always recommend checking the specific fabric details for your piece.

Everyday Care
  • Vacuum fabric surfaces regularly using a soft upholstery attachment.
  • Plump and rotate cushions regularly to encourage even wear.
  • Lift sofas and chairs when moving them, rather than dragging, and avoid concentrated pressure on arms and edges.
  • Limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and heat sources, which can affect fabric colour over time.
Cleaning

Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth rather than rubbing them into the fabric. Use only cleaning products and methods suited to your piece's specific upholstery, and spot test in an inconspicuous area first. For larger or stubborn marks, a professional upholstery cleaner is recommended.

Protection

Keep sofas and lounge chairs out of direct, prolonged sunlight where possible, as UV exposure can gradually affect fabric tone. Positioning furniture away from heaters and other direct heat sources will also help preserve its appearance.

Important Considerations

Gradual changes in foam density and upholstery appearance, including minor fading or pilling, can occur through normal everyday use and are not necessarily a fault. Not all cushions are removable, washable or reversible — please check your specific product listing rather than assuming this applies to every piece.

Dining Chairs & Upholstered Seating

Dining Chairs & Upholstered Seating

Our dining chairs combine upholstered seats with a variety of frame finishes. The care below applies to the upholstery; please refer to the Metal Frames & Hardware section for frame-specific guidance where relevant.

Everyday Care
  • Remove dust from upholstered seats and backs regularly with a soft brush attachment.
  • Lift chairs when moving them rather than dragging them across flooring.
  • Keep chairs away from direct heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight.
Cleaning

Treat spills promptly by blotting rather than rubbing, and avoid abrasive cloths or scrubbing motions that can wear down the fabric surface. Use cleaning products suited to the specific upholstery on your chairs.

Protection

Positioning dining chairs away from windows with direct sun, and away from heaters or fireplaces, will help protect both upholstery and any timber or metal detailing from premature fading or warping.

Important Considerations

Where chairs include visible fixings or joinery, it's worth periodically checking these remain secure with normal use. Care recommendations reflect the materials used in each specific chair, so please refer to your product listing for details relevant to your piece.

Metal Frames & Hardware

Metal Frames & Hardware

Metal detailing appears throughout our collection, from bed bases and table legs to supports and hardware fittings.

Everyday Care
  • Dust and wipe metal surfaces with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth.
  • Dry metal surfaces promptly after any contact with moisture.
Cleaning

Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or harsh chemical products on metal surfaces, as these can damage coated or plated finishes. A soft cloth with a small amount of mild, non-abrasive cleaner is usually sufficient.

Protection

Take care to avoid scratching coated or finished metal surfaces with sharp or abrasive objects, and avoid letting water pool around joints, fixings or connection points for extended periods.

Important Considerations

We recommend periodically checking accessible fasteners and connections for stability. Not all metal components across our range are stainless steel or inherently corrosion-proof, so please refer to your specific product's details and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.

Mirrors & Glass

Mirrors & Glass

Our mirrors pair glass with natural stone surrounds, so care for both elements is worth keeping in mind.

Everyday Care
  • Handle mirrors carefully during unpacking and installation, supporting the full weight of the piece.
  • Mount securely in line with the product's installation guidance.
Cleaning
  • Clean glass with a suitable glass cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Spray cleaner onto the cloth rather than directly onto the mirror, particularly near the edges.
  • Avoid abrasive pads or scourers on the glass surface.
Protection

Protect mirrors from hard impacts, which can chip or crack both the glass and any stone surround. Avoid leaning mirrors against unstable surfaces.

Important Considerations

Avoid prolonged moisture exposure around the edges and backing of a mirror, as trapped moisture can affect the silvering over time. If your mirror has a natural stone surround, please also refer to our Natural Stone & Marble section above.

Lighting

Lighting

From pendants to chandeliers, our lighting pieces combine decorative materials with functional electrical components.

Everyday Care
  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Always disconnect power at the switch before cleaning any light fitting, where applicable.
Cleaning

Use a soft dry cloth for routine dusting. Avoid using liquid cleaners near electrical components, sockets or wiring.

Protection

Keep moisture away from electrical components at all times, and avoid cleaning methods that introduce water or liquid cleaner near the fitting's wiring or connections.

Important Considerations

Always follow the manufacturer's specifications for compatible lamps and globes. Installation, rewiring or any electrical work should only be carried out by a qualified, licensed electrician.

Made to Be Lived With. Cared for to Last.

Natural materials and upholstered furniture respond to the way they're used, and to the light, moisture and environment around them. That's part of what makes them feel genuinely alive in a home, rather than uniform or mass-produced.

We'd always encourage you to follow the product-specific care instructions for your piece, alongside the general guidance in this guide, to help it look its best for years to come.

Damage caused by improper handling, unsuitable cleaning products, accidental impact or failure to follow applicable care instructions may fall outside Maison Blanc's voluntary warranty coverage. This does not affect any rights or remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I clean a marble dining table?

Wipe up spills promptly, then clean with a soft microfibre cloth and a pH-neutral stone cleaner suited to your table's specific stone and finish. Dry the surface afterwards, and avoid vinegar, lemon, bleach or other acidic or abrasive products, which can etch the stone.

Does natural stone need sealing?

It depends on the stone type, finish, and whether your piece was sealed before delivery. Sealing requirements aren't the same across every stone we offer, so please check your product's specifications or contact us if you're unsure.

Can marble stain or etch?

Yes. Natural stone, including marble, can be sensitive to acidic substances and may stain or etch if spills aren't cleaned up promptly or if acidic cleaning products are used. Using coasters, wiping spills quickly and avoiding acidic cleaners will help protect the surface.

Why does my stone look different from product photographs?

Natural stone is never perfectly uniform. Veining, tone, pattern and mineral deposits vary from slab to slab, so the piece you receive will be genuinely unique and may look slightly different to the photographs shown online, which are for illustration purposes.

Can Maison Blanc Cloud Bed covers be washed?

Select covers are removable, and where a cover is confirmed machine-washable, it can generally be washed on a cold, delicate cycle and air dried. Please check the specific instructions for your product before washing, as this doesn't apply to every upholstery option.

How do I remove stains from bouclé furniture?

Blot the stain immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth rather than rubbing it in. Spot test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area first, and for stubborn or set-in stains, we'd recommend engaging a professional upholstery cleaner.

How should I maintain sofa cushions?

Plump and rotate cushions regularly to encourage even wear, and vacuum fabric surfaces with a soft upholstery attachment. Keep in mind that not all cushions are removable, washable or reversible, so check your specific product listing.

What cleaning products should I avoid?

Across stone, upholstery and metal surfaces, avoid bleach, vinegar, lemon juice, abrasive powders and other harsh or acidic cleaning products. These can etch natural stone, damage fabric fibres or harm coated metal finishes.

Does improper cleaning affect warranty coverage?

Damage caused by improper handling, unsuitable cleaning products or failure to follow the applicable care instructions may fall outside our voluntary warranty coverage. This doesn't affect any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
